CPBL game was incredible last night โ local baseball just hits different. Respect for MLB, but it's not the same as being in the stands at Intercontinental Stadium cheering. That walk-off hit โ the whole crowd on their feet at the same moment. A camera can't capture what that feels like. You have to be there. Not knocking anyone who follows MLB โ just hoping people give CPBL more attention too. Taiwanese players work incredibly hard. Tickets are affordable, atmosphere is real. Main series next month at the home ground โ worth going.

Every April I feel this. Taichung Intercontinental, the sound of the crowd, the flags, the drums. The MLB fans can have their billion-dollar stadiums. I have a stadium where I know half the people around me by name and we've cheered through rain delays together. That's what baseball means to me.

FIP strips out fielder influence and measures only what the pitcher controls: K rate, BB rate, HR rate. A 1.1 ERA-FIP gap is significant. It means if you put an average outfield behind him this season, his ERA is probably 3.7-4.0. Traditional fans tracking ERA, I get it. But if we're evaluating contract value, roster decisions, playoff rotation spots โ FIP is the honest number. ERA is the narrative.

When FIP and ERA diverge by more than 0.8 runs over a full season sample, it almost always corrects to FIP within 40 starts. Currently three pitchers have ERA-FIP divergence above 1.2. One is overperforming (FIP higher than ERA โ expect regression). Two are underperforming (ERA higher โ expect improvement). Market hasn't priced this in.

The shift is accumulated wisdom โ positioning based on how a specific hitter attacks the ball. That's strategy. MLB decided to outlaw it to make box scores look better and broadcasts more "exciting." That's entertainment management, not competition integrity. I've watched baseball for forty years. Rule changes happen. This one bothers me the most because it targets the logic of defensive positioning itself.
